Dr.
Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized
the importance of enhancing scientific and research collaboration with
international entities and organizations, as well as focusing on areas related
to modern technology to keep pace with the rapid technological developments
occurring in various countries around the world. This aligns with achieving the
goals of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research to
realize Egypt's Vision 2030.
In this context, Dr. Islam Abu
Al-Magd, Chairman of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space
Sciences, received a delegation from the Fulbright Commission headed by Dr.
Maggie Nassif., Executive Director of Fulbright, Educational and Cultural
Exchange between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America,
to discuss ways of joint cooperation.
During the meeting, Dr. Maggie
Nassif presented a seminar introducing the Fulbright Commission programs and
grants in Egypt. A group of grants were presented, and an explanation of how to
apply was given. Some guidelines were presented to facilitate the application
of researchers. She explained that a call for a number of grants would be
announced soon.
Dr. Islam Abu Al-Magd confirmed that
he is willing to provide support and assistance to researchers willing to apply
for a Fulbright grant, stressing that the authority will be supporting new
technologies such as artificial intelligence, numerical modeling, high
resolution image processing, radar handling and satellite imagery.
Dr. Islam Abu Al-Magd explained that
the Remote Sensing Authority will identify a set of research topics for
cooperation with the Fulbright Commission, and prepare a proposal to host one
of the expert professors in some highly precise specializations related to the
fields and topics that interest the Authority; with the aim of exchanging
expertise with the Authority’s experts.
It is worth noting that the
Fulbright Commission in Egypt is one of the oldest and largest commissions in
the Middle East. It was established pursuant to an international cooperation
protocol between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America,
which was signed on November 3, 1949. to
manage and facilitate all matters of educational and cultural exchange programs
between the two countries. The Commission provides a large number of
scholarships and study missions to Egyptian and American researchers in all
fields for graduate students, researchers, professionals and faculty members.
Both sides agreed to continue
cooperation and exchange of experiences during the coming period.
