Chairman of the National
Authority for Remote Sensing Discusses Collaboration with Mirospace
Dr. Islam Abu El-Magd, Chairman
of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, welcomed Mr.
Thomas Shaw, the Regional Director of Mirospace, to discuss potential
collaboration between the two entities. The meeting was held at the Authority's
headquarters.
Dr. Islam Abu El-Magd highlighted
the advanced technological capabilities of the Authority in the fields of
remote sensing and space sciences, expressing the Authority’s readiness to
collaborate in areas of mutual interest.
He emphasized that the Authority
is keen on working with various institutions and organizations, leveraging the
available resources to implement projects and research with significant
economic and social impact, supporting Egypt's efforts to enhance the national
economy and society, and improving the quality of services provided to
citizens. This approach aligns with the objectives and principles of the
National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The meeting also explored ways of
cooperation between the Authority and Mirospace, which operates a network of 25
satellites for remote sensing purposes.
Both parties agreed that
Mirospace would prepare a cooperation proposal, where the Aswan Station,
affiliated with the Authority, would receive data transmitted from the
satellite network and develop a business model as a step towards the
Authority's integration into the network of ground stations for these
satellites.
The discussion also included
exploring how to maximize the benefits of this data in supporting development
and advancement efforts across the African continent.
The meeting was attended by Dr.
Alaa El-Din Saad, Head of the Space Communications and Ground Stations
Department in the Space and Strategic Studies Division, Dr. Ashraf Helmy, Head
of the Data Reception and Analysis Division, and Engineer Saeed Galal, Director
of Estek Matrix International for Import and Export.
