Dr. Ayman
Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stressed the
importance of the cooperation of research agencies and bodies with various
agencies and companies, with a view to maximizing the use of scientific
research and remote sensing technology in the exploration of different minerals
for the benefit of the national economy.
In this context, the National Commission for Remote Sensing and Space Science
has trained geological engineers from the Shalatin Gold Company by its experts
for three weeks, with a view to developing gold exploration operations in the
Egyptian eastern Sahara.
The specialized training programme covered multiple aspects of remote sensing
and its applications in gold exploration and received intensive practical
training on the use of state-of-the-art techniques for space image analysis and
identification of potential gold vein sites.
It was also agreed to develop a joint workplan between the Authority and the
company to promote future gold exploration efforts, which would include the
exchange of experience and scientific information, the implementation of joint
research projects and the development of innovative gold exploration techniques
using remote sensing techniques.
For his part, Dr. Islam Abu Al-Magd, Chairman of the National Authority for
Remote Sensing and Space Science, stressed that such cooperation was an
important strategic step to strengthen the role of the Authority in supporting
national economic sectors, noting the willingness of the Authority to transfer
its extensive experience in remote sensing and its applications in various
fields, including mining, to contribute to the prosperity of this vital and
important sector.
The Chairman added that investment in the training and development of mining
personnel was essential for enhancing the efficiency of exploration and
extraction operations, noting that such cooperation would contribute to the
creation of new jobs for young Egyptian personnel specializing in space science
and remote sensing, appreciating the efforts made by Dr. Safa Hassan, head of
the Authority's Scientific Training Division, to implement the training
programme and achieve its objectives.
This cooperation is expected to yield many positive results for the Egyptian
mining sector, including (using remote sensing techniques to more accurately
locate potential gold presence, thereby reducing costs and enhancing
productivity, and potentially creating new previously unknown gold sites,
contributing to driving economic development in Egypt and creating attractive
investment opportunities).
This cooperation between the National Remote Sensing and Space Science
Authority and the Shalatin Gold Company is a model for constructive cooperation
between the public and private sectors in Egypt. This project highlights the
State's commitment to the sustainable development of the mining sector and the
strengthening of Egypt's position as a pioneer investment in mineral
exploration and extraction.
